What are we up to in Room 306?

Hey Everyone!

I wanted to share with you what’s going on in different areas of our school lives. In math, we have been studying multiplication and how to multiply multi-digit numbers. Different math classes are working at different speeds, but all students are being challenged to learn multiple ways of multiplying. In the challenge math group, we are working on applying our knowledge so others can practice too. We are currently making multiplication puzzles that we will put on the blog for any and all to solve!

The students continue to study Economics with Mr. Kooiker. If you have questions about how they’re doing and what is going on, please email Mr. Kooiker directly, or I can forward your message to him. ๐Ÿ™‚

Reading Workshop is taking us to new places currently. We just finished up a great unit on questioning. We were able to explore the struggle of segregation while asking questions in our reading. Now, we are starting a unit on inferring. Inferring is taking the author’s clues in a story and piecing them together to make sense of the story. The author might not directly say what’s happening, but you can infer what is happening based on the clues.

In Writer’s Workshop, we are in full swing with our Realistic Fiction writing. The students have done a phenomenal job of creating believable characters and resisting from making superheros, aliens, and other fantasy creatures. ๐Ÿ™‚ I am proud of the way they have been not only creating how their characters will look, but matching their personalities with their external features! Our writers have also been crafting scenes in their stories that show these characteristics. Check out a sample of one of the student’s writing in the pictures to the right!

Finally, we want to talk swimming! We are just having an absolute blast in the pool! Last Friday, the students were SO tired when they left the pool. The kids are working really hard during their lessons, and playing even harder during free time! ๐Ÿ™‚ It is a ton of fun to watch them outside of the school setting and having a blast!

I hope you are all having a great week!

Sincerely,
Mr. Bowen
