Hi 4th Grade Families,

We recently have had some amazing events happen in and out of our classroom. Just before Thanksgiving we welcomed Mr. Yates, Anna’s dad, to our classroom to teach us about budgeting. We had our first auction day in class and we wanted to make sure we didn’t overspend since we have monthly bills to pay. His banking expertise helped us out a ton!

Also, we had our amazing Holiday Program. I enjoyed watching the kids a lot. They did such a great job! There are some pictures of our rehearsal below.

Finally, the students were able to live out what it is like to be a United States Senator and Representative. The primary role of Congress is to make laws for our country. The students were given the role of a Senator or Representative, and then were placed into committees. There was a Senate Classroom and Senate School Committee, and also a House of Representatives Classroom and House of Representatives School Committee.

In these committees, ideas were discussed and turned into bills. These bills went through discussion, revision, countless votes, and even a few vetoes by the President. When the students experienced our system of checks and balances, they realized how hard it is to create a law in this country. There was good news though. One bill was passed into law and signed by President Bowen. Ask your son or daughter about what it was.
