Publishing Writing at Home

Hi Parents,

Our class just finished up our first unit of writing. The students wrote detailed personal narratives. When you look at their drafts, you will probably ask yourself how to read it because there have been so many additions and marks put on the paper! I would like our students to finish off this unit by publishing their work at home or during their computer time at school. We spend 10-15 minutes typing at school, so they could finish it here at times if computer access is hard at home.

In order to publish the work and make it easy to share and organize on my end, please use your child’s Google Docs account. Google Docs is a word processing software attached to your child’s school Gmail account. We have accessed the email account recently and plugged away at using Google Docs. You can find a tutorial for accessing Google Docs and your child’s email account below. It is only a couple minutes in length, so please give it a watch to help you and your child utilize this great tool!

One final note is about the student email accounts. We have discussed appropriate uses of email and have done an internet safety talk too. We’ll continue internet safety discussions the entire year. Also, we talked about how once you click the “send” button, it cannot be taken back. The students have been great about using the email system to only email their friends and me. Because you will have access to the account in addition to me, I feel confident we can monitor the students’ email habits and ensure it’s a positive experience for them all! Please let me know if you have any questions!
